Description |
At the beginning of the 1930s, the Far Eastern Department of the Russian All-Military Union (ROVS) reached the highest level of its military and political activity whose main task was to organize an anti-Bolshevik revolution in Russia. For the reconstruction of the activity of the ROVS Far Eastern Department and General Diterikhs’s role, the article relies on the little-studied documents of the ROVS kept in the archives of the Museum of Russian Culture (San Francisco) and Hoover Institution (Stanford). M. K. Diterikhs’s becoming head of the Far Eastern Department of the ROVS accelerated the anti-Bolshevik opposition consolidation processes and stepped up subversion against the Soviet regime. However, financial insolvency, the lack of understanding of the social and ideological transformations of Russian society, and perseverance of internal discrepancies as well as the vagueness of the foreign policy strategy together with effective work of the Soviet secret services caused the ROVS to collapse. The definitive elimination of the ROVS from the political arena of China took place during the Japanese expansion around the continent.
