The article deals with the methodological foundations for the development of agricultural enterprises. Examines the viewpoints of the authors to the understanding of the term «sustainable agriculture». The authors propose various approaches for sustainability as well as the methodological development of agricultural enterprises. Examines the economic, social and environmental aspects of development of agricultural complex of Russia. The article also discusses the role of different kinds of factors, both external and internal and results of sustainable activities of enterprises of AIC. Provides justification for assessing the sustainability of agriculture use the coefficient of stability, which allows to determine the degree offluctuations in actual levels of dynamic range relative to the theoretical levels, the coefficient of stability changes, the rank correlation coefficient.
