In this study, CrFeNiAl0.3Ti0.3-10 wt% Al- x (HfMoNbTaTi)C (x = 10, 20 wt %) high-entropy wear-resistant coatings were fabricated using the detonation spray equipment. Aluminum was chosen as a binder to enhance the deposition efficiency and performance of the coatings. These coatings displayed a simple phase composition of FCC, BCC, Al, (HfMoNbTaTi)C and B2 phase. The (HfMoNbTaTi)C particles provided reinforcement through a second phase, strong pinning effect and precipitation hardening via the B2 phase, resulting in high hardness and wear resistance. When the (HfMoNbTaTi)C content was 20 wt%, the coating exhibited a hardness of 841 HV and a bond strength of 58 MPa. Furthermore, the wear rates of this composite coating at 25 °C, 400 °C, and 800 °C are reduced by factors of 5.29, 1.48 and 0.68, respectively, compared to the plain CrFeNiAl0.3Ti0.3 coating.
