Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for body composition measurements is being actively implemented in various fields of medicine. The bioimpedance method is based on the electrical conductivity of human tissue and it is successfully used in the clinical practice of anaesthesiology, emergency medicine, sports medicine, paediatrics, dietetics, endocrinology, midwifery, surgery, and dermatology. The BIA is fast, safe and informative in usage. That fact makes it an excellent tool for paediatric aims. The method allows to study individual human body composition and to obtain data on the state of internal organs and their activity. The method in conjunction with other studies (anthropometry, somatoscopy, laboratory and additional diagnostics, bioimpedansometry) offers great opportunities in depicting individual health state of an examined patient. However, the data published in the literature on indicators of body composition in medical practice are diverse, and require further study.
