The article reveals the essence of the phenomenon of westernization and its importance for the modern world. The process of the westernization is connected with developing expansion of the West, its powerful influence on other countries and obvious intention to override them. The process of westernization is considered by means of its comparison to the processes of modernization, globalization, Europeanization and Americanization. As a result of the westernization process the countries involved into it often have to adopt some political, economic and cultural western values, and this fact, in its turn, can lead to total transformation of a society, including destruction of its original cultural values.
