This study used an active cooling technique (ACT) to increase the rare solid solubility of earth elements and reduce the volume fraction of the eutectic phase. After that, a short-time solid solution was used to avoid grain coarsen, while the eutectic phase could be completely dissolved into the matrix. To regulate the precipitation precisely, using a two-stage aging enables the precipitation of a massive and homogeneous β′ phase in the matrix. The Mg-RE alloy exhibited an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 393 ± 5 MPa, a yield strength (YS) of 265 ± 5 MPa, and an elongation (EL) of 5 ± 0.5%.
